This course meets the requirements of 40 CFR 763, Appendix C as follows:
Course Duration: Initial contractor / supervisor course will be a 5-day course, each day consisting of at least 8-hours.
Hands-On: The course schedule allows for 14 hours of hands-on training. All participants will be evaluated and must successfully demonstrate competency during the hands-on portion of the course.
Instruction: Participants will receive manuals and reference materials used in the instructional phase of the course. Instruction will include:
- Physical characteristics of asbestos and asbestos containing material
- Potential health effects related to asbestos exposure
- Employee personal protective equipment
- State-of-the art work practices
- Personal hygiene
- Additional safety hazards
- Medical monitoring
- Air monitoring
- Relevant federal, state, and local regulatory requirements, procedures, and standards
- Respiratory protection programs and medical monitoring programs
- Insurance and liability issues
- Record keeping for asbestos abatement projects
- Supervisory techniques
- Contract specifications
Evaluation: Participants will be required to score a 70% or better on a written examination which contains 100 questions, and successfully demonstrate competency in each of the hands-on areas of the course to receive a completion certificate.
