Are you ready for your next sewing challenge? If you have basic machine sewing skills and want to build your confidence and technique, this class is for you! We’ll learn how to make a lined bag, apply zippers and other fasteners, and attempt simple mending and alteration projects. This class is recommended for beginner sewists familiar with their own machine or those who have completed CEI’s Start Sewing Class.

Please read:  Supply List: Sewing machine in working order with power supply & manual (very important): • Reasonable effort will be made to assist students with their individual machines if needed. Advanced troubleshooting or repair is NOT AVAILABLE. Keep Sewing students should be able to do the following; • plug in your machine and attach the foot pedal; • change needles; • wind a bobbin; • sew a straight practice stitch; At least 1 bobbin compatible with your machine; A zipper foot compatible with your machine (required); Sharp scissors -used for fabric only; Sewing tape measure- flexible; Straight pins -dressmaker, glass head, quilting, ball head, etc all acceptable; Marking item- pencil, tailors chalk or disappearing ink pen; Thread – match your fabric for each project if desired or bring a basic color- black, white, off white; Small bag fabric- 1 yard. light or medium weight cotton or cotton/poly blend. (leather, faux leather, faux fur, corduroy, velvet, silks, satins, other heavy weight or specialty fabrics are not appropriate for this class.); Small bag lining- 1 yard. light or medium weight cotton or cotton/poly blend in black, white or off-white.; Nylon coil zippers for practice at least 6” in length. Zippers can be repurposed from tired garments- any number, sport, jacket, separating all acceptable. (NO metal zippers, NO invisible zippers); A few items for mending (3rd class)- jeans, shirts with holes, missing buttons, hemming etc. Bring what you have and you’ll learn how to make it wearable again. Advanced Supplies: Helpful and handy extras but not required. Instructor recommends making sure you enjoy and are committed to sewing before making additional investments in supplies: • Seam ripper, • Hem gauge, • Clear quilting ruler- 24 or 36 inches, • Rotary cutter, • Cutting mat, • Pin cushion.
