Have you always wanted to learn to sew but don’t know where to start? Excited to learn a new skill? Join us on Tuesday nights and Start Sewing! We’ll start with machine orientation and practice stitching and you’ll leave with a custom pillowcase you made from scratch. Learn the basics of sewing with a machine, how to calculate fabric amounts, how to cut fabric and ultimately construct your project using your own sewing machine and creativity. This class is designed for students with little or no sewing experience, or those looking to practice beginner skills.

Please read:  Supply List: Sewing machine in working order with power supply & manual (very important): • Reasonable effort will be made to assist students with their individual machines if needed. Advanced troubleshooting or repair is NOT AVAILABLE. It is strongly recommended that Start Sewing students are able to perform the following functions on your sewing machine, but not required:, • plug in your machine and attach the foot pedal, • change needles, • wind a bobbin, • sew a straight practice stitch; At least 1 bobbin compatible with your machine; Sharp scissors -used for fabric only; Sewing tape measure- flexible; Straight pins -dressmaker, glass head, quilting, ball head, etc all acceptable; Marking item- pencil, tailors chalk or disappearing ink pen; Thread – match your fabric for each project if desired or bring a basic color- black, white, off white; Fabric for projects: Pillow case: 1 to 1.25 yards; Optional: fabric for suggested intro projects (3rd class)- light or medium weight cotton or cotton/poly blend. (leather, faux leather, faux fur, corduroy, velvet, silks, satins, other heavy weight or specialty fabrics are not appropriate for this class.), • tote: 1 yard, • fold over pillow cover: ½ yard, • 14” pillow form.; Fabric should be pre-washed, pre-shrunk and ironed before class. Advanced Supplies: Helpful and handy extras but not required. Instructor recommends making sure you enjoy and are committed to sewing before making additional investments in supplies. • Seam ripper,• Hem gauge, • Clear quilting ruler- 24 or 36 inches, • Rotary cutter, • Cutting mat, • Pin cushion.
